Elmhurst Veneers Dentist Explains The Planning Process for Receiving Dental Veneers

Many patients come in to our Elmhurst cosmetic dental office with their dream smile already in mind. After all, no one knows your smile better than you do, so if you’re interested in perfecting your teeth, you probably already know what you want your smile to look like. Many patients can achieve their dream smile through the use of dental veneers. Today I’m going to explain how you’ll work with our Elmhurst veneers dentists to craft a smile that’s uniquely and exceptionally yours.

Dental veneers are thin layers of porcelain that are affixed to natural teeth. Porcelain veneers can effectively address a wide variety of cosmetic problems—from misaligned teeth, to dull enamel, to damaged teeth.  Because veneers are such a versatile option, they can fix multiple cosmetic issues all at once.

When you meet with our dentists, we’ll discuss exactly what you want to change about your smile. Some patients find it helpful to bring notes along with them to this session, so that they make sure to address concerns.

Our dentists will then examine your teeth to determine whether or not dental veneers are suitable for your teeth and needs. Patients pursuing dental veneers should have generally healthy tooth roots so that their teeth with dental veneers will remain secure and last for years. If necessary, we’ll take an X-ray of your mouth to assess that health of your individual teeth, and screen you for dental decay.

At this point we’ll also talk about your ideal timeline for treatment. Dental veneers treatment generally takes two to three appointments to complete. If you’re on a timetable for a specific event—like a wedding or a reunion—we’re happy to accommodate you as best we can.
