After lunch…
A simple and effective thing that you can do to support optimal oral health is to build a quick “refresh” period into your lunch hour. After you’re done eating and drinking, take a minute or two to clear the dental debris and plaque from between your teeth. Rinse your mouth with some water or a specially formulated mouth rinse. You will quickly notice a difference in how your smile feels and looks.
Every hour…
Make it a point to drink some more water! Truly, drinking water is one of the best things that you can do for your oral health, and for your overall wellbeing. If you, like many of us, have trouble keeping track of your water intake, then we’d encourage you to set a timer to remind yourself to take a water break, or to use a water bottle that helps you track how much you are drinking.
Stick to a schedule…
If you are going to consume something sugary or acidic, like a coffee drink or soft drink, for instance, then you can make an effort to do so in a way that is least detrimental to your oral health. Generally speaking, for example, you want to eat or drink these things in short sittings rather than snacking or sipping continuously. The goal is to limit the amount of time that your mouth is coated in sugars and acids. Remember, oral bacteria use these very things as fuel!
As you may have noticed, these are all easy-to-implement measures that pay dividends over time. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Elmhurst dentists to get more information or to schedule your personal consultation.
